22-Year-Old UNN Student Arrested for Allegedly Killing Young Woman in  Hotel

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old UNN student in connection with the shocking murder of a young woman, Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem, whose body was found under a hotel bed in Obukpa, Nsukka.

The suspect, Emmanuel Gambo, is a second-year student studying Material and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was arrested after weeks of investigation by the police.

In a statement posted on Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter), the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest and revealed that Gambo confessed to the crime.

Police also recovered several personal items belonging to the victim, including her iPhone, tablet, and earbuds.

According to the police report, Gambo and the victim checked into a hotel in Obukpa on the night of June 14, 2025. A disagreement reportedly broke out in the early hours of the next day after their second round of intercourse.

The victim had allegedly demanded an additional ₦15,000 from the suspect, after being paid ₦5,000 earlier.

Things turned violent, and Gambo allegedly strangled her. He then wrapped her body in a towel and curtain and hid it under the hotel bed.

On June 16, hotel staff noticed a foul smell from the room and discovered the decomposing body during inspection.

The suspect had used a fake name and unreachable phone number when checking in, which initially made it hard for police to find him.

However, detectives from the Homicide Section of the State CID were able to track him down to his lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025. During questioning, he admitted to the crime.

Investigators also recovered the bottle of red wine the victim brought to the hotel and the other belongings the suspect had thrown out the window in a bag.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the detectives for their hard work and promised that the Command is committed to justice and public safety.

He also advised parents to watch over their children and warned young people to stay away from harmful behavior and peer pressure.
