JUST IN: Ibadan Mourns as Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin Passes Away at 90

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has died at the age of 90, bringing an end to his short time as the 43rd king of the ancient city of Ibadan.

Sources confirmed that the respected monarch passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025—just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday.

Oba Olakulehin became the Olubadan of Ibadanland in July 2024 and was officially given the staff of office by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024. His time on the throne lasted less than a year.

Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin was known for his many years of dedication and service to the traditional leadership system in Ibadan before becoming king.

As the city mourns this great loss, the Ibadan Traditional Council is expected to share more information on the cause of death and funeral arrangements in the coming days.

Oba Olakulehin’s passing marks another turning point in the history of the Ibadan monarchy. May his soul rest in peace.
