Labour Party Crisis Worsens as Faction Slams Julius Abure Over Wike Meeting

The Labour Party crisis has taken a new turn following a viral photo showing the suspended former National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

A faction of the party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, strongly criticised Abure, saying the picture confirms fears about his loyalty to the Labour Party and its mission.

The reaction was made public in a statement released in Abuja by Ken Asogwa, media aide to the Acting National Chairman.

The group expressed disappointment that while Peter Obi is actively focused on national issues and Senator Nenadi Usman is attending international meetings with his support, Abure is seen socialising with political figures who oppose the party’s vision.

They accused him of associating with those responsible for “oppression, bad governance, and election rigging,” claiming he is working against the Labour Party from within.

According to the statement, Abure’s public appearance with Wike, a known political rival of the Labour Party, proves he may be acting under the influence of external forces determined to weaken the party.

The faction also criticised Abure’s past leadership, noting that he was absent during important events like local elections in Lagos and major governorship campaigns in Anambra, Kogi, and Edo.

They claimed he failed to provide leadership and support during crucial moments, which is why he was suspended. His actions, especially meeting with political opponents, were described as a betrayal of the party’s values.

Asogwa questioned Abure’s real intentions, asking: “Whose interests is Julius Abure truly serving?”

The statement ended with a strong call to rebuild and protect the Labour Party from individuals who want to misuse it for their own benefit.

The group stressed that the party belongs to the people of Nigeria and should be guided by its mission for justice and a better country.
