Linda Yaccarino Resigns as CEO of Elon Musk’s Social Media Platform X

Linda Yaccarino, the Chief Executive Officer of X (formerly known as Twitter), has officially stepped down after two years of leading the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

She announced her resignation on Wednesday through a post on X, without giving a clear reason for her decision.

However, she hinted that the platform is moving into “a new chapter” following its recent takeover by Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI.

In her message, Yaccarino wrote:

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏. When Elon Musk and I first talked about his vision for X, I knew it was the opportunity of a lifetime. I’m thankful to him for trusting me with the mission to protect free speech, turn the company around, and build X into the Everything App.”

Yaccarino also praised the X team, saying they worked hard to rebuild trust with advertisers and improve user safety especially for children. She highlighted some of the platform’s recent updates such as Community Notes and the upcoming X Money feature.

“I’m incredibly proud of the X team,” she said. “We’ve made a historic business turnaround. From launching innovative features to bringing iconic voices onto the platform, the work we’ve done has been remarkable.”

She described X as a “digital town square” that gives everyone a voice, adding that the progress made wouldn’t have been possible without the users, business partners, and her team.

Linda Yaccarino joined X in June 2023, shortly after Musk bought the platform in a $44 billion deal.

Before that, she was a top advertising executive at NBC Universal. She was brought in to help steer X’s business operations while Musk focused on product and technology.

Now, as X moves into a new phase under the guidance of xAI, all eyes are on what’s next for the platform and for Yaccarino.
