Tensions Rise as Labour Party Gives Peter Obi 48 Hours to Exit

A faction of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Peter Obi, asking him to officially leave the party after his decision to join a political coalition.

This was made known in a statement released in Abuja on Thursday by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.

According to him, the Labour Party under Abure’s leadership does not support the new coalition and strongly distances itself from those involved.

Ifoh described members of the coalition as “power seekers” whose interest lies in their personal ambitions rather than the well-being of Nigerians.

He stressed that the idea of a “New Nigeria” cannot be achieved with politicians who have been part of the country’s past problems.

He said, “We know Peter Obi has been holding private meetings with some of our members, trying to convince them to follow him to his new party. However, many have refused to leave with him.”

The statement also made it clear that any Labour Party member involved in the coalition must resign from the party within 48 hours.

Ifoh warned against politicians who are trying to play on both sides, stating that the party will not tolerate members with divided loyalties.

He criticized those who claim to be loyal to the Labour Party during the day but secretly support the coalition by night. “We want members who are fully committed to the Labour Party’s goals,” he added.

Ifoh further pointed out that the majority of Nigeria’s population is made up of young people who are eager for change and tired of the same old political figures making decisions.

He argued that the coalition is made up of the same politicians who have held on to power for years and cannot bring the change Nigerians are hoping for.

“The new Nigeria we all dream of cannot come from these desperate politicians. Labour Party is still the best platform to bring about real change, and we’re ready to lead that movement,” he said.

He called on Labour Party members to remain loyal and keep the party structure strong as preparations for future elections continue.
