Tragedy as Stray Bullet in Wedding Ceremony Kills 10-Year-Old in Katsina

A wedding celebration in Unguwar Liman, Magama Jibia area of Katsina State, turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a 10-year-old boy lost his life to a stray bullet in a wedding ceremony.

The sad event happened around 2:50pm on Friday during the wedding of a member of the Nigerian Hunter Group. 

According to reports, the suspect, 45-year-old Adamu Idris, fired a locally made gun into the air to celebrate. Unfortunately, the bullet hit a young boy named Malam Yusuf in the stomach.

Another victim, a 25-year-old woman identified as Shamsiyya Salisu, was also injured by the same bullet. She was shot in the waist.

Both victims were quickly taken to the General Hospital in Jibia by community members and police officers. Sadly, the boy was confirmed dead on arrival. The woman is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the incident. Officers arrested the suspect, Adamu Idris, and recovered a locally made rifle, one live cartridge, and one used cartridge from him.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and Idris will be taken to court once the process is complete.

The incident has left the entire community in shock and sadness. Many locals are now calling for a ban on firing guns during celebrations, warning that this dangerous practice must stop before more lives are lost.
