A trending video on social media has captured a moment between Liberian President Joseph Boakai and US President Donald Trump that has sparked conversations online.

Joseph Boakai

In the clip, President Boakai was speaking about his hope for stronger ties between Liberia and the United States. He mentioned his interest in partnering with the U.S. to promote peace and security across the West African region.

Impressed by Boakai’s fluency in English, Donald Trump interrupted with a compliment and a question. “You speak good. Where did you learn to speak so beautiful English? You were educated where?” Trump asked.

President Boakai politely responded, saying he was educated in Liberia. He went on to mention that he attended the College of West Africa and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Liberia in 1972.

Trump, seemingly surprised by the response, praised Boakai’s English-speaking skills.

The video has since gone viral, with many users sharing their thoughts. Some found Trump’s question disrespectful, while others saw it as a genuine compliment.

A few commenters also pointed out the power dynamics in the exchange, with one saying, “A president of an African country answering ‘Yes sir’ to another president shows where the power lies.”

Others made lighthearted comparisons to Nigerian leaders. One commenter joked, “Tinubu said he schooled in America; let Trump interview him too.”

While reactions vary, the video continues to make rounds online, stirring debates around language, diplomacy, and how African leaders are perceived on the global stage.
