Trump Says Vice President JD Vance Is ‘Most Likely’ Heir to MAGA Movement

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted that Vice President JD Vance may take over as the future leader of the MAGA movement.

This is Trump’s strongest signal yet that Vance could be the Republican Party’s next top presidential candidate.

While speaking to reporters, Trump was asked if Vance is the likely heir to his “Make America Great Again” movement. He replied, “Most likely. In all fairness, he’s the vice president.”

Trump also mentioned another possible future plan, a Republican ticket with JD Vance and current Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio, who also serves as National Security Adviser, is one of the most powerful figures in Trump’s current administration.

“I think Marco is also someone who could team up with JD in some way,” Trump said. “But we also have many amazing people, even some who are here with me today.”

Trump made these comments during an event that included other key officials such as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. Both women are believed to be considering presidential runs in the future.

Although Trump said it’s “too early” to confirm anything, he added that Vance is “doing a great job” and is “probably the favorite” to lead the MAGA movement after him.

Marco Rubio, for his part, seems to support Vance’s growing role. Speaking on Fox News last month, Rubio called Vance a “close friend” and said he hopes the vice president “intends to run,” even though it might still be early to decide.

Rubio didn’t rule out running for president himself, saying, “You never know what the future holds.”

Trump’s recent words are a shift from his earlier statements. Back in February, he called Vance “very capable” but stopped short of naming him as a possible successor.

Now 40 years old, JD Vance is a former Marine and was a U.S. Senator from Ohio before becoming vice president. He has become a key voice in both domestic and international matters under Trump’s second term.

Rubio’s dual role being both Secretary of State and National Security Adviser is rare. The last person to do this was Henry Kissinger, which shows how much trust Trump has in him.

Interestingly, both Rubio and Vance competed for the VP role during the 2024 campaign.

But since then, they’ve formed a close bond. Vance recently told CNN, “Marco is very competent, and he’s also one of my closest friends in the administration.”

If either of them runs for president in 2028 or if they team up it would show just how much Trump’s influence still shapes Republican politics and the future of the MAGA movement.
