The incident reportedly took place at approximately 5 pm on Sunday, March 5, 2023, when the fighter jet targeted bandits who had sought refuge in a nearby bush and had run into the village.

Sources indicate that the deceased were members of the same family, while about five other villagers sustained injuries. Community leader, Hamisu Kurau, confirmed the incident via phone to Daily Trust.

“It was learnt the jet was after two bandits who fled into the village. It was said to have missed the target, and killed the pregnant woman identified as Furaira and two teenagers in the house,” he said.

According to sources, the deceased pregnant woman’s husband, Bala, and the father of the two deceased teenagers, Muntari, are brothers.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, DSP Mohammed Jalige, declined to comment on the incident when contacted.
