On Tuesday, April 3, former US President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 criminal charges against him in a Manhattan court. Trump, who was arrested and placed in police custody upon arrival at the Manhattan district attorney’s office, appeared in court wearing a dark blue suit and red tie alongside his lawyer Joe Tacopina.

This historic arraignment, the first time a former or sitting US president has been arrested, will not be broadcast live, although five photographers will be allowed to take pictures of Trump and the courtroom before the hearing begins.

The charges stem from an investigation into hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Following his court appearance, Trump is expected to return to Florida and hold an event at Mar-a-Lago to respond to the charges.

While Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment marks the first criminal charges against Trump, he still faces potential legal troubles from other ongoing investigations, including a special counsel’s investigation into his role on the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and the handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, as well as a Fulton County special grand jury investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.
