According to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, significant progress has been made in Nigeria’s power sector, with more than 40% of the population now enjoying a daily electricity supply of 20 hours.
The minister, making the statement on Sunday, September 29, credited this achievement to various strategic initiatives implemented by the government.
Adelabu highlighted the significant efforts made by the power ministry, backed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure a more regular and stable electricity supply for Nigerians. The power ministry’s remarkable milestone within a year is the production of over 5,500 megawatts of electricity distributed nationwide.
Today, over 40% of Nigerian households have access to more than 20 hours of regular electricity. This significant improvement shows the stark contrast between the past and the present situation, reflecting the continual progress aimed at further improvement.
The minister further emphasised the critical role of stable electricity supply in the economy, promising more advancements in this sector with his team’s unwavering commitment.
The major achievement is that today, we generate over 5,500 megawatts of power, transmit and distribute it, and over 40% of customers today enjoy over 20 hours of regular power supply across the nation. You can see that there is a significant improvement between when we came in and now, which intend to improve further”, he said in part.
