Current and former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are fighting it out for the White House with real-time voting, keeping Americans and the world on edge.
Trump currently leads by 230 electoral votes to Harris’ 210. Both need at least 270 votes to succeed in what might be the most consequential election in modern history.
Trump, who was the 45th president from 2017 through 2021, hopes to return for another term after losing to Joe Biden in 2020. Harris, who is running for vice president and is a Democratic presidential candidate, wants to be the first woman president.
Several key battleground states—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are becoming critical to the endgame. Trump has held his advantage in conservative districts like Missouri, Alabama, West Virginia, Indiana, and Kentucky, where he still has a substantial working-class following—allegedly, 8 out of 10 college-educated voters are now voting for him.
In contrast, Harris has a substantial advantage among youth and black voters (84 per cent of black voters and 60 per cent of voters under 30 voted for her in Georgia).
The state’s economy is the number-one issue that worries approximately 40 per cent of voters—a sign of the challenges facing this close race.
Because each vote determines the outcome of the race, counting the last ballots from these critical states is all we’re looking at. Until the final votes are counted, the race should be tight.
