LOS ANGELES: Former President Jimmy Carter has earned a posthumous Grammy Award.

Carter, the peanut farmer who became president following the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam War, died in December at the age of 100. Carter was nominated in the audiobook, narration, and storytelling recording category at the 2025 Grammys for “Last Sundays in Plains.

A Centennial Celebration” has recordings of his final Sunday School lessons at Maranatha Baptist Church in Georgia. The record features musicians Darius Rucker, Lee Ann Rimes, and Jon Batiste.

This is Carter’s fourth Grammy. His posthumous Grammy joins his three previous awards for spoken word albums.

If the former president had won before his death, he would have been the oldest Grammy Award winner in history.

Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, who currently chairs The Carter Centre’s governing board, accepted the award on his behalf.

This prestigious award makes Jimmy Carter the oldest Grammy winner of all time.

“Having his words captured in this way for my family and the world is truly remarkable,” he stated during his acceptance speech. “Thank you to the academy.”
