Kemi Badenoch proposes tougher rulings for foreigners who seek to get British citizenship, making it harder to get approval.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch suggests limiting immigrants’ capacity to apply for British citizenship to 15 years instead of six.

In one of her first policy declarations as a leader, Badenoch emphasised that indefinite leave to remain, which leads to citizenship, should not be handed to those with criminal records or who have claimed benefits or social housing.

She claimed to the BBC that citizenship is a privilege, not a right, and should only be awarded to those having a “meaningful connection to the UK.”.
