Chegg Takes Google To Court Over AI-Driven Traffic Loss

Chegg, an Edtech company Chegg has reportedly filed a lawsuit against tech giant Google over their Artificial intelligence’s summaries of search results.

Chegg alleges that Google’s AI summaries of search results have a huge negative impact their traffic and overall revenue.

FMTBLOG gathered according to the suit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Chegg tackled Google of biased competition, which includes; give-and-take dealing, syndicate standing, and uneven financial gains.

Chegg has accused Google of using its dominant position in the search engine market to force companies to provide their content in order to be featured in Google Search.

According to Chegg, this practice allows Google to unfairly profit from third-party intellectual property. In response, Chegg is pursuing legal action, seeking compensation for damages and other remedies, as well as a court order to stop what it describes as Google’s “unlawful and unfair” behaviour.

Chegg is not alone in its concerns. Several publishers, particularly news organizations, have raised similar issues with Google’s use of AI in search results. These publishers argue that Google’s AI-generated summaries, which pull information from various online sources to answer user queries, have negatively impacted their website traffic.

We will keep you updated if we receive any response from Google in line with this lawsuit.
