Honor Steps Into The Shoes Of Samsung & Google With 7 Years Android OS Updates

The Magic series phones from Honor will get seven big Android OS updates, the company said. Honor has now joined Samsung and Google in giving long-term software support for their devices. This is a big step forward for Honor.

Honor will keep the device safe with regular security fixes for up to seven years after it comes out, in addition to the Android updates. The “HONOR ALPHA PLAN” is the name of Honor’s new way of updating software.

The HONOR ALPHA PLAN will start in the European Union (EU), and it will likely spread to other places in the future. As an interesting side note, Honor said that the Magic 7 Pro would get five Android patches, but now there will be seven.

Honor wants to cut down on electronic waste and make cellphones last longer by providing longer software support. Along with Samsung and Google, the company is part of a new trend where companies are focused on making their devices last longer instead of just putting out new ones every year.

Also, the Honor ALPH PLAN is a way for Honor to go up against Samsung, which already has a strong community of hardware and software. But Samsung could soon release new phones with 8 years of Android updates.

Google and Qualcomm announced last month that Android software changes would happen for 8 years. Chipsets that came out before Snapdragon 8 Elite, like Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and earlier, will not be able to get this new software support.
