The petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio was thrown out by the Senate on Wednesday. According to News360 Nigeria, the Senate said the appeal “is dead on arrival.”
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, Neda Imasuen, made the pronouncement at a public hearing raised for the purpose of investigating alleged misconduct against Natasha.
In addition, Senator Imasuen ignored the order from a Federal High Court in Abuja that said the Senate couldn’t punish Natasha in any way.
He said that the committee could not hear Senator Natasha’s petition about the same subject because she had already made a sexual harassment case against Akpabio in court.
He also said that the Senate and its committees don’t look at requests that are already being looked at by a court.
Senator Imasuen refused to follow the court order that said the Senate couldn’t punish the female senator, saying that it was against the principles of separation of powers.
“The legislature is a separate arm of government and another arm of government cannot dictate to the other,”
