Rotimi Amaechi Shares What He Told Former Classmates Who Rejected Him at School Reunion
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, recently shared a touching story about his early struggles and a reunion with his former classmates who once turned him down because he was poor.

In an interview with Daily Sun, Amaechi opened up about his difficult childhood. He explained that his family could barely afford three meals a day, and buying clothes was a major challenge. According to him, he wore the same shirt and trousers for nearly four years, something many people find hard to believe.
Amaechi also spoke about an encounter he had during a school reunion in Umuahia. He met some of the ladies from his class who had refused to date him back then due to his poor background. During the reunion, he playfully reminded them of how they missed the chance to become “Mrs Amaechi.”

He said, “We were at a reunion in Umuahia, and I like to tease my classmates when we meet. I usually say, ‘One of you could’ve been Mrs Amaechi if only you had said yes back when we were in school.’”
He went on to say, “Back then, we were very poor. We had no money to eat, no clothes to wear, and because of that, you didn’t give us any attention. You didn’t think we had a bright future. But what many don’t understand is that men work hard to make something out of their lives. For me, I try to live a simple life, no matter what.”
