Funke Akindele Opens Up About Therapy Journey After Online Trolls’ Mockery
Nigerian actress and producer, Funke Akindele, has shared how she went through therapy after being mocked online for not having a husband.

Speaking during a live conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo on Sunday, Funke revealed that the hurtful comments from online trolls pushed her to seek professional help. She was joined by other artists on the show.
The award-winning actress recalled how she came across a viral video where a group of women laughed at her for being single. According to her, the experience deeply affected her.
“There was a video on social media where some women mocked me because I didn’t have a husband,” Funke Akindele said. “I saw all the insults and posts about how I moved from one marriage to another. I cried and cried.”
She explained that the emotional toll became too much to bear on her own. “I just told myself, you need to speak to someone about this. You can’t continue like this,” she added.
Funke Akindele shared that reaching out to a therapist was one of the best decisions she made for her mental health. “After speaking to my therapist, I felt much better. I was able to open up about things I couldn’t say publicly,” she explained.

Encouraging others who may be going through similar experiences, the actress advised, “It’s very important to speak up. You can’t bottle everything inside. I’m a very strong person now. I have the strength to face any challenge life throws at me.”
Funke also mentioned how the difficult experience inspired her creativity. “After all the blackmail and mockery, I became stronger. I started writing about my life. Even though I almost broke down mentally, I used the pain and mockery to produce a movie,” she said.
