Authorities have identified her roommate, Chester Lamar Grant, as the individual responsible for this heinous act.

Grant, who was living with Odunsi at the time, is alleged to have killed her following a heated argument concerning their pet cats.

The dispute escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing, which shocked the university community and sparked widespread media coverage.

On April 26, police conducted a welfare check at Odunsi’s apartment in Houston after receiving concerns about her well-being.

Upon entering the residence, officers noticed blood on the rear patio, prompting them to investigate further. Inside, they discovered the 23-year-old nursing student with multiple stab wounds and Grant, aged 40, also injured with at least one stab wound.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Odunsi was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police reports and local news outlet KHOU 11, the argument between the two roommates occurred just days before the incident and centered around their cats, which they had been caring for together.

The dispute escalated to a tragic confrontation where Grant allegedly took Odunsi’s life.

Following the stabbing, Grant reportedly attempted to take his own life by inflicting multiple stab wounds on himself, including a serious injury to his neck.

He was subsequently hospitalized in critical condition but was later placed under arrest.

Grant had only lived with Odunsi for about two months before the incident. On May 3, after recovering sufficiently, he was booked into jail and charged with murder, according to jail records.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 5, as the investigation into the case continues to unfold, leaving many questions and a community seeking answers in the wake of this tragic event.
