ASUU Elects New President at National Congress

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Professor Chris Piwuna as its new president, marking a fresh start for the union’s leadership. The announcement was made at the 23rd National Delegates Congress, which took place on Sunday in Benin City.

Prof. Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, is currently serving as the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos. He now takes over the role from Professor Victor Osodeke, a Soil Science expert from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State.

In the election, Prof. Piwuna went head-to-head with Prof. Adamu Babayo of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. After a keenly contested race, Piwuna emerged as the winner and was announced as the ASUU new president.
