Kehinde Alade, a WAEC candidate, sadly lost his life after being hit by a stray bullet fired by a police officer in Ibadan, Oyo State. The heartbreaking incident happened on May 20, 2025, while the student was on his way to an exam centre.

Following the incident, the Oyo State government confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to find out what truly happened and ensure justice is served.

During a press briefing, Oriyomi Hamzat revealed that he met Kehinde Alade’s father shortly after the incident. According to him, the grieving father opened up about his personal struggles, including how Kehinde’s mother abandoned the family nine years ago. Since then, he has been raising the children alone and never remarried.

“He told me the mother left him with the responsibility of raising their children alone, and that’s why he never got married again,” Hamzat shared during the conference.

Hamzat further questioned the role of the mother in Kehinde’s life, especially in the period leading up to the tragic event. He wondered if things could have turned out differently had she been more present.

“If Kehinde’s mother was in the car that day, maybe she would have warned him to slow down or been more cautious. Maybe the tragedy wouldn’t have happened,” Hamzat added.
