The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two key suspects linked to the shocking murder and burning of a young woman in the Gangare area, near the canal behind Mile 12 Market.

In a statement released on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests and shared updates on the ongoing investigation.

According to Hundeyin, the victim, a native of Nasarawa State, was targeted in what the police believe was a planned attack. Her estranged boyfriend, now on the run, is suspected to have led the brutal act along with some accomplices.

“The woman was not killed over any religious issue,” Hundeyin clarified, countering the false reports circulating on social media. “It was a personal matter that turned violent.”

He explained that the woman had been living in the area with relatives from northern Nigeria. Her occupation remains unknown, but investigations suggest a long-standing dispute between her and her former boyfriend. The man allegedly tried to forcefully restore their broken relationship, and when that failed, he and others planned the deadly attack.

“Two of the suspects have been arrested,” Hundeyin said. “We are now working hard to catch the boyfriend and others involved in the crime.”

The two suspects currently in custody are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department. Police say they are cooperating and helping with leads to find the remaining culprits.

CSP Hundeyin also assured Lagos residents that peace has returned to the Gangare area and nearby communities in Mile 12. He encouraged people to go about their normal lives without fear.

“We urge everyone to stop spreading false or unconfirmed stories, especially on social media, as it only causes panic,” he added. “We remain fully committed to keeping the public safe and will share updates as the case progresses.”
