Rotimi Amaechi Reacts to Wike’s Claims, Says “I Was Once His Boss”
A former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has responded to recent statements made by the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, about their political history.

Wike had earlier claimed during a media chat in Abuja that Amaechi was not his political boss and downplayed the former minister’s political influence.
He pointed out that Amaechi failed to secure Rivers State for former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 and 2019 general elections, even though Amaechi was the Director-General of the APC presidential campaign at the time.
Wike’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, also defended his boss in a Facebook post, further challenging claims that Amaechi played a major leadership role in Wike’s political rise.
Olayinka mentioned that during the political crisis in 2007, while Amaechi was out of the country, Wike remained in Rivers State and supported the process that helped reclaim Amaechi’s governorship mandate.

The conversation took another turn after Reuben Abati, a well-known journalist and TV anchor on Arise News, described Wike as rude. Abati also stated that Amaechi was Wike’s political boss, a statement that sparked more controversy.
In reaction, Wike fired back by calling Amaechi power-hungry and accused him of failing to deliver votes for Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 presidential election.
When Amaechi appeared on Arise News on Thursday, he was asked about his current relationship with Wike. While he avoided going into personal details, he firmly maintained that he was once Wike’s boss. “I was once his boss, whether he likes it or not. I hired him; I could have said no,” Amaechi said.
Although he declined to share whether they still spend time together, his comment highlighted the past dynamics between the two political heavyweights.
