Eid-el-Kabir: Northern CAN Urges Leaders to Tackle Insecurity and Hardship in Nigeria

As Nigerians marked the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on political leaders to urgently address the country’s growing problems.

In a statement shared during the festivities, Northern CAN urged leaders to take serious and practical steps to end insecurity, economic struggles, and rising public frustration.

The statement was signed by Rev. Joseph John Hayab, Chairman of Northern CAN. He stressed that many Nigerians now live in fear due to insecurity and poor governance. According to him, this fearful situation is only encouraging those who threaten peace and unity in the country.

“Our leaders must fulfill their constitutional and moral duty to protect the lives and dignity of all Nigerians,” Rev. Hayab said.

Reflecting on the significance of Eid-el-Kabir—which honors Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice—Northern CAN encouraged political leaders to also make real sacrifices for the sake of peace and national progress. The group said the season is a reminder for everyone, especially leaders, to show true commitment to Nigeria’s development.

“This is a time for leaders and citizens alike to show fresh dedication, faith, and a sense of responsibility to the nation,” the statement noted.

Northern CAN expressed concern about worsening insecurity and the harsh economy, pointing out that millions of Nigerians are living in fear and hopelessness.

“The country is burdened by insecurity, economic hardship, and widespread frustration,” the group said.

The association strongly criticized the government’s usual habit of making statements without action. They said Nigerians are tired of empty promises and want real change.

“It’s no longer enough for the government to issue statements. People want to see real efforts to improve their lives,” they added.

They urged Nigerian leaders to act quickly and boldly to rebuild trust and prevent citizens from losing hope in the system.

Northern CAN also used the opportunity to call on all Nigerians to use the Eid season to pray for the country and support the less privileged. They reminded religious and community leaders to continue promoting peace and avoid anything that could increase division among citizens.

“We ask all religious and traditional leaders to encourage peaceful living and stay away from anything that may worsen our national challenges,” the group said.

In closing, Northern CAN sent warm greetings to the Muslim community across Nigeria.

“We wish our Muslim brothers and sisters a peaceful and blessed Eid-el-Kabir. May God accept your prayers and sacrifices. May this season bring true leadership, unity, and renewed purpose for our country. Eid Mubarak,” the message concluded.
