A Nigerian lady, Oluwa Damisi, has raised concerns over a shocking case of a Nigerian Immigration data breach, after discovering that her passport application form containing sensitive personal information was allegedly used to wrap food for a stranger.

Damisi took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share her frustration. According to her, she had submitted a form to the Nigeria Immigration Service as part of her passport application process.

To her surprise, someone later contacted her on WhatsApp with a photo of the very form—now being used to sell akara (bean cakes).

She expressed outrage that such a private document, which includes details like her full name, date of birth, contact information, and other personal data, ended up in public hands.

“Omo @nigimmigration @NISResponseNG why is it so easy for someone’s privacy to be breached??!” she wrote.

“Someone just texted me on WhatsApp with a picture of my passport application slip, and it was used to sell akara. The slip contains every single information about my life right now.

This is not even funny. The guy then asked for my pictures on top 🤦🏽‍♀️”

Damisi also posted a screenshot of the conversation she had with the man who found the document. Many online users commended her for staying calm during the exchange, even though it was clearly a distressing situation.

Social media users have since reacted to the incident, with many expressing concern over how easily private data can be exposed.

@RowlandJ_nior commented:
“Okay, I’m shocked at this one. And I noticed how you played cool with him, just to keep him sane.”

@Sam_Olayemi1 added:
“Data breach is not peculiar to Nigeria. Even in the US and Europe, data breach happens. We can simply ask the government agencies to do better without denigrating Nigeria.”

@olatayoadewuyi noted humorously:
“If them explain Nigeria give you, you no fit understand.”
