Former Senate President David Mark has officially ended his long-standing relationship with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a political group he helped build from the ground up.

In a letter dated June 27 and addressed to PDP leaders in Otukpo Ward 1, Benue State, Mark explained that he could no longer remain in the party due to deep leadership problems and ongoing internal crises.

“The irreconcilable differences in the PDP have subjected the party to public ridicule and reduced it to a shadow of its former self,” he wrote.

David Mark resigns from PDP after decades of commitment, including efforts to rebuild the party when many others walked away following PDP’s defeat in the 2015 presidential election.

“Even when almost everyone left the party after 2015, I stayed behind. I remained committed to its ideals and worked hard to bring it back to national relevance,” Mark said in his heartfelt letter.

However, he expressed deep disappointment over how things have changed in the party. According to him, ongoing internal battles have made it difficult to move forward.

“The party is no longer what it used to be. The leadership crisis and constant divisions have weakened it,” he added.

David Mark’s resignation comes shortly after he was appointed as one of the interim leaders of a new opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His decision is seen as part of a bigger effort to unite political voices in preparation for the next election cycle.

He explained that after discussing with his family, friends, and political allies, he has decided to move forward and join a broader national coalition.

“I have resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, to help rescue the country and protect our democracy,” he declared.
