Elderly Men Can’t Make All the Decisions – Aisha Yesufu Tells ADC

Popular activist and co-convener of the former Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has called for better youth participation in politics and more involvement of women in the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Yesufu gave this advice after attending the coalition’s meeting where ADC was unveiled as the political party of choice. She shared a photo from the event showing mostly elderly men seated at the high table a sight that sparked her concern.

In her message, she stressed that the future of the party should not be decided by only the older generation. According to her, women and young people should be fully involved in the decision-making process, not just given token positions like “women leader” or “youth leader.”

She wrote on social media:

“Women leader and Youth leader positions cannot be what is reserved for women and youth.
You see this table full of older generation men they cannot be the only ones allowed to make decisions as we move forward.”

Yesufu encouraged young people and women to actively take part in political activities within the ADC. She urged them to become delegates, floor members, and even leaders.

“Dear Women and Youth, this is the time for your numbers to be heard loud and clear. JOIN!!!
Be part of the leadership. Overwhelm for good. Bring in ideas from out of the box,” she added.

The meeting also saw the appointment of former Senate President, David Mark, as the Interim National Chairman of ADC.
