Ukrainian Forces Capture Nigerian Man Fighting for Russia
A 29-year-old Nigerian man, Kehinde Oluwagbemileke, has been captured while fighting for the Russian army in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

According to reports, Kehinde was arrested by the Freedom of Russia Legion, a group made up of Russians who support Ukraine. He was captured in the Zaporizhzhia region, where heavy battles have been taking place.
Kehinde had been living in Russia for about four years before he was jailed for drug-related crimes. He later joined the Russian military, reportedly in exchange for a shorter prison sentence.

This incident sheds light on the growing number of foreigners involved in the war. While reports say over 200 Africans have joined Ukrainian forces, many more possibly thousands are believed to be fighting on the side of Russia.
Among African countries, Nigeria has the highest number of citizens believed to be serving as fighters in the conflict, followed by Algeria and South Africa.
