Tinubu Orders Flags Lowered Nationwide to Honour Muhammadu Buhari’s Death

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered that all national flags across Nigeria be flown at half-staff for seven days in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London at the age of 82.

The news of Muhammadu Buhari’s death was shared by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Onanuga also passed on President Tinubu’s message of deep sorrow and respect for the late leader.

In a statement, Tinubu described Buhari as “a patriot, a soldier, and a statesman,” noting that he served the country with dedication and left behind a legacy of sacrifice and service.

“As a sign of respect, I have instructed that all national flags should be flown at half-mast across the country for the next seven days,” the president said.

In addition to the flag tribute, President Tinubu has called for an emergency meeting of the Federal Executive Council on Tuesday to further honour Buhari’s memory.

The Nigerian government has also announced that the former president will receive full state honours in recognition of his major role in the country’s development.

President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari, and the rest of the family. He also prayed that God forgives Buhari’s shortcomings and grants him eternal peace.

The Muhammadu Buhari death has sent waves of sadness across the nation, with many remembering him for his leadership, discipline, and commitment to Nigeria’s unity and growth.
