ADC Disqualifies Peter Obi from 2027 Presidency Bid
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that Peter Obi’s 2027 presidency ambition cannot be pursued under its platform unless he fully cuts ties with his current party, the Labour Party.

Although Obi has shown interest in the 2027 presidential race and has been seen engaging with the ADC.
The party’s rules say clearly that only people who are officially registered members and have no ties to other political parties can contest for office under its name.
According to the ADC’s guidelines for primary elections, Article 8 of its constitution states that anyone who wants to run for office must not belong to any other political party.
If the person has previously been a member of another party, they must submit a formal resignation letter to confirm they have left.
This rule poses a serious challenge for Peter Obi’s 2027 presidency bid, as he is still a known leader and member of the Labour Party.
His spokesperson, Tanko Yunusa, recently confirmed that Obi has not officially left the party.
“Well, that will be made public if he decides to do that. At the moment, he is still a member of the Labour Party,” Yunusa said.

On the other hand, the path seems clearer for other popular politicians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Both men have reportedly left their former parties PDP and APC and have received approval from the ADC’s National Executive Committee to take part in the party’s presidential primaries.
The ADC emphasized its commitment to fair and transparent internal elections, saying, “The electoral committee of the party shall conduct primary elections that will produce credible candidates that reflect the choice of the people.”
The party also mentioned that it may use direct primaries, indirect primaries, or a consensus method to choose its candidates depending on what its National Executive Committee decides.
For now, unless Peter Obi’s 2027 presidency campaign is backed by a full membership switch to the ADC, he may be unable to use their platform to contest.
