Google is working on a new Gemini-aligned loading animation for AI Overviews in Search, which is more impressive and daring than the existing method.
When loading, AI Overviews display “Searching…” followed by “Generating…” and blue lines of text right before the text appears. If you are in the beta program, you will see the Gemini sparkle + “AI Overview” or the beaker + “Search Labs | AI Overview” badge.

Google is working on a new animation in Search Labs that showcases “Generating…” in the top-left corner, followed by “Looking this up” below and “Putting it all together.”
Blue and purple lighting pulsates through the rectangle container, making the connection between AI Overviews and Gemini more obvious. A similar light surrounds the Gemini overlay on Android and in Gemini Live.
The label at the top reads, “Generative AI is experimental,” referencing the early days of AI overviews.
This could be a new animation, but the new style may correspond to Gemini 2.0. Earlier this month, the business began testing the new approach for AI overviews in Search.
Google said Gemini 2.0’s “advanced reasoning capabilities” will enable AI Overviews to “tackle more complex topics and multi-step questions, including advanced math equations, multimodal queries, and coding,” with a broader rollout expected “early next year.” That would explain the badge and why it appears slightly slower than stable.
There are a few reports regarding this new animation, but it is not yet available to all users.
