Edison Ehie described his experience as Majority Leader of the Rivers State Assembly when he was offered N5 billion to help impeach his boss, Sim Fubara, while working as Chief of Staff under Fubara.
During his Channels Television appearance on March 31, Ehie revealed he possessed evidence regarding the N5 billion bribe on his smartphone.
During the evening of October 29 2023, an explosion hit the state Assembly complex.
“I can also open my phone to show you, in the beginning of October 2023, they approached me with a bribe of N5 billion. It is here in my phone,
“It was for impeachment. It’s here. I have it and I have printed it and distributed it, in case, in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother,” he said
The explosion revealed the deteriorating political ties between Governor Fubara and his former leader Nyesom Wike who became Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Speaker of the House, along with 26 Wike backers, suspended Ehie and three Fubara supporters through an order that was issued on October 30. They blamed Ehie for the incident.
Amaewhule and the 26 MPs started an impeachment investigation of Governor Fubara, which focused on abuse-of-power and severe misconduct allegations.
Supporters of the suspended governor stopped the impeachment process when they blocked their attempt.
