Don’t Date When You’re Jobless – Pastor Bolaji Idowu
The Lagos-based pastor, Bolaji Idowu explained that being unemployed often limits a person’s choices and influences what they find attractive in a partner. According to him, joblessness can make people settle for relationships they wouldn’t normally consider if they were financially stable.
In a recent message shared online, Pastor Bolaji said some people think they are in love, but it’s not love, it’s poverty. He believes that having no money clouds judgment and causes people to stay in relationships that are not genuinely fulfilling.
“Don’t date when you are jobless,” he said. “There are some relationships that look attractive, not because they truly are, but because you don’t have money. Once you start earning, you’ll realize you had no business falling in love with certain people.”
He added, “It’s not love that pushed you there. It was hunger. Never negotiate on an empty stomach – you’ll get a bad deal.”
Pastor Bolaji went on to describe this mindset as a “crumbs mentality”, a way of thinking where people settle for less just because they don’t believe they can get more.

“When you are poor, small things satisfy you easily. That’s one sign of crumbs mentality. You settle too quickly. You need to change your thinking and start thinking in abundance,” he said.
He gave an example of how people around him used to dream of just traveling abroad, especially to America, as if that were the highest goal. He questioned this mindset, encouraging people to dream bigger.
