Kenneth Okonkwo Blasts APC Defectors, Calls Them “Palmwine Politicians”

Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, has strongly criticized politicians who recently left their parties to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, these defections are driven by selfish interests, not by any clear political belief or ideology.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Monday, Okonkwo reacted to a political rally in Delta State where many well-known figures officially joined the APC.

His comments quickly gained attention due to their blunt and colorful language.

In a striking comparison, he said, “That palm wine, if you don’t refrigerate it, can change taste more than 20 times in a day. These are politicians that are unstable like water.”

He referred to such individuals as “palmwine politicians”—people who switch parties and political positions as often as palm wine changes taste. He explained that these politicians constantly change their loyalty not for the good of the country, but to satisfy their own ambitions.

Kenneth Okonkwo blasts APC defectors, accusing many of having questionable pasts. He claimed some of them are facing corruption charges and have been convicted for bribery.

“On that podium, you saw men convicted by the Supreme Court for bribery and corruption in dollars in the name of integrity. Their surnames are now classified as dollar,” he added sharply.

The former Nollywood actor didn’t hold back, calling the rally “a subset of professional criminals.” He described the event as a gathering made up of suspects, accused persons, and convicted individuals.
