A 27-year-old man named Adebayo Agboola has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old baby belonging to his neighbour.
Agboola, who resides in Ijora-Bada, Lagos, was taken to Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, where he was charged with defilement.
According to the prosecution counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, the accused committed the offence on March 23 in the White Sand area, Ijora-Bada, Lagos, when he was left in the care of the baby by her 16-year-old mother, who went out to buy noodles a short distance from her home.
The charge carries a sentence of life imprisonment, and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, directed the prosecutor to send the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The case was adjourned until May 5, and the accused was ordered to be remanded in Kirikiri prison.
