Quarry Owners Protest Over Exorbitant Granite Price Increase In Ogun
Quarry stakeholders in Abeokuta, Ishara, and other cities protested the increase in granite prices on Wednesday.
The quarry product, which was previously priced at N5,200, is now priced at N8,500, a difference of N3,300.
The state’s Abeokuta, Ishara, and Remo quarries were said to have raised the price of the item in defiance of other quarries in the state.
Speaking with our reporter, Alhaji Fasiu Alao, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Mine Workers (NUMW) in Ogun State, revealed that the demonstration is to inform the Chinese men at the quarry that the quarry product merchants, haulers, and transporters are unhappy with the abrupt increase in the price of granite.

The chairman, who called the raise “outrageous,” went on to say that if there had to be a raise, it should be gradual and sensible.
“We’re not saying they shouldn’t raise the price of the product, but it has to be reasonable and fair,” he said.
