Come Back Home Or Return The Bride Price I Paid To Your Parents”- Man Tells Estranged Wife In Court
On Thursday, January 11, businessman Haruna Adamu implored a Magajin Gari Shari’a Court in Kaduna State to either order his divorced wife, Salamatu Abubakar, to return to her marital residence or reimburse him for the bride price he had paid her.
Adamu claimed he lacked themoney to get married to another woman.
He added, “My wife should return the bride price I paid to her parents if she is unwilling to return to me.”
He claimed that he planned to marry his now-estranged wife after getting divorced.
He claimed that the marriage lasted only eight months and that he only got to enjoy two months with her.
After that, he claimed, things went wrong, and she moved home with her parents.
The plaintiff stated in court that he had been providing his wife food and money for six months, even though she was still living with her parents.
“I barely had two months of calm in our eight months of marriage—I married her as a divorcee. I want my wife back because I adore her. But because I don’t have the money to marry another woman if she won’t return home, she should pay me off so I may get married again,” he remarked.
The defendant claimed that because Adamu was physically abusing her, she was forced to leave her married home.
She continued by saying that her mother’s illness was treated with no compassion by her divorced husband.
She stated that she would prefer not to return to her married residence than to reimburse her husband for the N75,000 dowry he gave her parents.
The case was postponed until January 17, 2024, by Judge Malam Isiyaku Abdulrahman to allow for additional hearings.
This would allow the complainant to provide a detailed inventory of what he claimed and proof of the money he allegedly spent on the respondent, he clarified.
